Gangstagrass

May 12, 2008

Brooklyn-based musician Rench has released Ganstagrass as a free download, and it is chock full of hip-hop banjo goodness.

Fron Rench’s web site:

“Check out Gangstagrass, a full-length mashup of Underground hip-hop vocals with Rench beats and straight up bluegrass samples. It features some of the really talented emcees I have recorded at Rench Audio, including Infinitee, TONE, and Deep Thoughts/Kaz-Mir from Black Market. It also features tons of uncleared samples from early bluegrass, folk ballads, and blues, and more current bluegrass stuff as well - Thats why its all there for free download.”

One word of caution, the language gets rough at some points.

The lyrics are not folksy gang style black blues?perhaps.

  2. Greg from Australia Says:

Excellent! Banjoes and Hamsters!! This make any banjo detractors think twice.

May even fire up my old “loop” software.

  3. Steve Harrison Says:

Wow, that’s a LOT better than I expected it would be. The bluegrass binds enough melody to the verse for me to really get into this. I’m gonna be passin’ this on.

  4. Patrick from Michigan Says:

It was interesting-till the rapping got in the way. I’ll pass.
